Moccasin Identifier Kit

Oakville Community Foundation

“If we, as First Nations people, don’t get a marker on the ground today, we will be lost forever.”

– Carolyn King

This project has been developed by Carolyn King in partnership with Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation and the Ontario Green Belt, to promote public awareness of significant cultural historic sites and the ancestral presence of First Nations, Metis and Indigenous Communities.

Moccasin Identifier Kits aim to promote public awareness by showcasing indigenous cultural identity on the land across Ontario through recognizable indigenous markers on significant cultural historic sites and venues.

One (1) Moccasin Identifier Kit is available through the Oakville Community Foundation for every publicly-funded elementary school in Oakville. Please only register once per school.

A staff member of the Oakville Community Foundation will be in touch after you have registered to determine delivery of the Kit.

Community Classroom brings free arts, culture, heritage and environmental programs to students attending Oakville's publicly funded schools through in class visits and field trips.

Given that the look of the classroom is now very different, the Foundation has shifted its programming to a virtual platform and is available to not only Oakville students, but any student attending a school within the Halton District and Halton Catholic School Boards.
